I'll spare you all the story and just cut to the chase.
I changed my .lnk association and now I'm screwed. I don't have a single working shortcut on my computer.
Any way to fix this short of reformatting?

*Edit: I'm on Windows 2000

A little more in-depth...
If I create a shortcut now, it make a file called New Shortcut.lnk
If I right-click-drag Albums, it makes Albums.lnk
and yeah, Windows 2000 in case you miss my edit at the top, silenze

You could try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q172053/

with this: http://67.170.158.116/tmp/temp/linkfix.reg (I exported my .lnk to this file)

it's all NT... ;)

That did indeed fix the problem, with a restart. I was just a bit afraid of restarting.
So now, the origin of the problem. I used to make shortcuts to my FTP folders, and they would open in IE. Very convenient because IE is the only browser I know of that one can drag and drop files into and from an FTP. After my most recent format I made my FTP shortcuts, only now when I try to open them, it tells me that there's no program associated with them. Is it a windows security fix? How can I make them behave as they used to?

think that just needs to be associated with explorer.exe or iexplore.exe..

does it bring up a list of applications?

No, it says 'Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.' That's what got me in trouble in the first place.
