We actually broke our old record of 16 people signed onto the forums at one time. Actually, we didn't just break it, we nearly tripled it.

The new record is 44 members online at once. Not bad guys, congrats.

Sometimes search engine robots like to go insane with the counting function on message boards, so you might want to make sure that it just wasn't a glitch in the matrix. ;)

Hah, we know it wasn't a glitch in the matrix, because glitches in the Matrix are accompanied by deja-vu.

I hate to burst bubbles.

There is the possibility of phpbb checking client versions and excluding spiders in the 'online users' count..

If not.. the number of search engines spidering the forums has increased a lot all of a sudden, because the default session timeout should be around 300 seconds... (ie; if phpbb doesn't do client version checks to exclude spiders, we'd need ya know 10 or so people online and 34 search engine spiders on the forums at once to get that number ;) )

k I'm done.. :P

I don't know details. I've just seen it happen before. One place I visit which normally has about 200-300 active users all of a sudden jumped up to almost 4000, to which an admin stated that a spider/bot had gone haywire.

I got to another forum that has 50 members, and the record there is 101. Man oh man did we celebrate.

Meh... no one noticed my clever matrix post. :(

lol, nah i noticed and was in the floor. just now read it though, cause i was out all weekend.

to answer the question though, no glitch in the matrix, no bots on speed, just legitimate traffic. to be honest, i'm sure one of the contests brought it about, or the fact that we're running two simultaneous contests.
