exactly what pc components use the 12v rail?

Optical drives, IDE drives, SATA if you use molex connector instead of SATA power connector, fans, anything else that you connect the 4 pin molex connector to.

Your motherboard also makes use of the 12v rail :wink:

i thought the 4pins were 12v but wasnt sure, what i did really wana know is if the mobo used the 12v rail.

The processor runs off the 12V rail... that's why there has been such big outcry about teh Prescott's sucking the 12V rail dry. Some have even caused whole mobos to fry up.
