What would be faster? the DDRIII has insane ram speeds, but would the 5900 perform better in games? both are around the same price.

I love crimmas

Well Im still sporting the big bad fx 5200 :barf: so I would have no clue.

What do the benchmarks say? Numbers never lie :!:

i can't find numbers on the 5700 Ultra with DDRIII... all they have is the DDRII

personally, i would not get either of those. by the time crimmas rolls around, the geforce 6600 GT should be available on the AGP format. as of writing, i believe it is only available on PCI-E.

pricing should fall into the sub 200 range.

can anyone else comment on this?

i've got 1 month to decide before the parents start buying. so if they do come out then, ill snag one. but until then, this is what i've found

that suxs.

It would be a tough call if both are equally priced. Is there much difference in the gpu clock speed between them?

Uhhhhmmmmm....... FX5900XT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5700 Ultra... don't buy the 5700 ultra if the 5900xt is in a feasible price range... the 5900 is WAY faster in every way, there is no comparison...

agreed with silenze. memory bandwidth on an AGP card isn't everything. It helps alot don't get me wrong, but i'd say your are better off having the higher the 5900xt

Isn;t there also the possibility of flashing the 5900XT to a 5950U??? I have read about a few people doing this, though I;m not sure which brands of grakkas they had.

Mine flashes to 5950u, but there's no difference in performance at the max overclock with both the 5900 and 5950 bios. So basically it overclocks to 5950 level anyway..

wait, wait, maybe this is a trick... last time XPTB asked for our opinion, he went with the opposite product and had problems with it...

maybe we should vote for what he SHOULDNT get...

I dont know if it can be done with 5900XT but it can definately be done with FX5900. I flashed my msi FX5900 to FX5950 with no problem. The temps droped a couple of points and i gained one or two frames/sec in 3Dmark04

I'm pretty sure that it can... there was this guy Nebulous at some other forum who did it. Scored over 7500 in 3D03 too.

as far as brand....i'd go with MSI or Gainward. the Gainward will likely have better performance, but MSI usually packs alot of features and software with theirs
