Hey to all those who have used this m/b or know a little about it. The fan that comes with the motherboard, the little one, does it do alot of good? The reason I ask is because it makes alot of noise and I can't seem to remedy the problem and I thought they were for onboard video cards which my m/b doesn't have. Any suggestions?

That's the northbridge fan. Abit's are known for their noise and their little durability. Best option would be to replace it with something like a Zalman passive northbridge cooler, no noise at all!

I have a similar problem, I have an MSI 865 mobo and the northbrige fan has 6 LEDs on it that are really annoying at night.

if you dont do any overclocking you could put a passive cooler on your northbridge, I wouldnt recommend it if you OC, you might run into some stability problems

Well I'm still wondering is it really nesscesary? I want to know what it is cooling?

it is cooling the northbridge. the northbridge is the interface between your CPU and RAM (among other things). basically, if you overclock by raising the FSB (as most of us do), then it stresses the northbridge and adds heat to it. the fan and heatsink keep it cool.
you can go with a passive heatsink (one that has no fan), but i wouldn't recommend it if you overclock (by increasing your FSB)

Northbridge eh, hmm well since i do O/C by fsb i should keep it lol , I'll think i'll update it for sure though, can't stand the noice it makes. Any one know how to get the existing one off? Theres screws for the fan but theres a silver base with spring things on it.

You have to pull the motherboard to take it off, my nf7-s is due back from RMA today and I'll take a look but I think it has the plastic push pin connectors to hold everything on.

just got my board back from rma, yup it has the plastic push pins on the NB fan. Pull your motherboard squeeze the prongs on the plastic pins toether on the backside of the board and push em through

Well just tinkered with it a bit, found out what was making the noise. The fan was pretty crappily designed a fraction of a mm was striking the little fan cover. So i did a little unscrewing so it wasn't so tight, it still grinds everynow and then but its better then it was

Well bringing this thread back to life. I am on my third bloody abit chipset fan and yet again it has just stopped working. Has anyone else experienced this? Either way I've had it with these dinky little fans. I overclock via FSB so would this passive Zalman H/S be able to do the trick? At least as well as my fan that keeps dying :P

Sorry, I know this thread is old and you've probably found a replacement by now, but since you didn't get an answer to your question I thought I'd reply.
I have the Zalman northbridge cooler on my NF7-S v2 as well. I found the screw-on clips to be kind of a pain to get set just right to fit the holes in the motherboard. As for cooling, it performs just as well as that crappy stock heatsink Abit puts on there. And a lot of NF7 owners report that their fan fails on them, mine was gone within the first year. Other than the clip alignment the other bad news about this cooler is that if you are using a large Thermalright CPU heatsink it's going to interfere with this one due to its proximity. I had to bend a few of the Zalman pins out of the way to clear my SLK-947u.

Ha, thats awesome, I have not replaced my cpu fan yet but I am using that chipset cooler, mounting was a pain in the ass but all in all not bad. How big is that fan there 92mm?

That's a 120 on there with an adapter. Makes the 947 look small, huh?
