OK.. AMD wants me to use PCM. Does PCM work as well as say Arctic Silver 5? Should I believe all the hype about how bad thermal grease is?
I figure over clocker would know. I don't plant to over clock but i want to run as cool as i can with out going to liquid cooling. (call me a chicken!)

The purpose of using a thermal compound such as arctic silver is to give a 100% contact patch between the cpu and heatsink by the surface roughness and possibly un-even areas thus gives better heat transfer than if you would not use a thermal compound. I dont know the differences between pcm and arctic silver. Another option is lapping the cpu/heatsink to reduce these problems.

Has any one compared say, chomerics PCM 725 vs Arctic silver?
Why do you prefer the arctic silver? honestly my gut says arctic silver but AMD must have a reason for PCM. <unless it's only considered idiot proof>

Because it's considered idiot proof, nothing more.

AS5 would win by a fair margin....

most chip manufactures recommend a paste that is non silver based. this reduces the risk that you might short out something on the chip.

Then I should ask what is your favorite thermal material or paste for use on CPU's?

unless you're really worried aboiut it in which case just use Arctic Silver Ceramique. Still gives good performance but without the silver .
