Just a few days ago, when I play Far Cry online, I noticed that when I connected to a game, my ping times would be off the wall...
50 - 150- 90 - 257 - 31
Totally random, they never sit still. My characters movements are about 5 seconds behind the time I press the button, making the game unplayable. Any ideas on this?
It worked fine up until a few days ago. My only guess is that the school is screwing with my internet connection again. (much like they did last year in the dorm; blocked access to OCIA.net from my room.)

Well a steady 500ms ping wouldn't even cause such issues... one way to analyze this further would be to find the host and do a traceroute ('tracert' in windoze) to the host and see if the ping is significantly higher at any particular hop... if it's outside of your school's network, that isn't the issue. If it's just a recent problem it could just be a router on the fritz between the server and you.. it could be you're taking a different route now than you were before.. it could be lots of things, but I wouldn't be too quick to overlook the school having something to do with it... if their router(s) is/are getting overloaded now and then that could be the pausing in your game..
This is on Any server of course?

When I play BFV, its pretty common for my pings to be all over the place. Most servers will kick you if you get over 250 3 times...but, at 250+, you may notice the occasional skip, but nothing like you describe.
Actually, what you describe, is what happens when someone on dial-up gets on a server.

ive tried the tracert but it gets to what appears to be the last point on campus, then stops for about 30 seconds, then goes on to the next point, etc etc.
yes, this is the same on any server that i join...
i have no idea. maybe it will just 'fix' itself... lol
I will go ahead and warn you about this. Far Cry's multiplayer does that. My ping randomly jumps when I play it online as well and I don't live on a campus. They honestly did a poor job of applying the multiplayer part of the game. I even hit a 400-500 ping while playing game within my own network at the house.

400-500 on your LAN? That's not right...
I only got lag playing Far Cry online when a dialup user would join and the server would try to balance everything out...

but the thing with mine is, it worked flawlessly up until just about a week ago. now it is unplayable. my pings before were like 40-70 and stable
