Dammit Dammit Dammit Dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
I was at Wal-Mart a little while ago and to my delight they had
Half-Life 2 on the shelves. As any self righteous gamer would do I
proceeded to the check out counter, grinning from ear to ear.
The little old lady at the register was happy to ring-me-up, only
to be greeted by the register saying sale not allowed. Dammit!!
I had it in my hands... Had I had known the out come, I think I
would have stuffed the game in my pants and left a note saying
"I will pay you Tuesday", while making a B-line for the door.
Now that my dreams are shattered for 4 more days, I think I'm
going to get drunk tonight and wallow in my sorrows

I know in Canada if theres something on the shelves they HAVE to let you have it, its the law:p

Yea thats rather of an insult, put something on the shelves but then say you cant buy it yet. I know it cant be that diffucult to keep things off the shelves till the sell date.
Then again I dont like walmart to begin with. I used to drive truck and would occasionally deliver to some of their distribution warehouses and they were a major pain in the but to put it nicely.

I'm sure it was done by some unknowing moron...but if there was no sign stating when it WOULD be for sale, I'm sure if you really pushed the issue, a (salary) manager would have made the sale to get you out of his face.

Yeah, I agree...but I guess I have to be quiet when saying it...I, one daughter, and her husband work at a WalMart grocery distribution center, the other daugher works at a Supercenter, and the wife just started the same Supercenter this week. LOL. YUK!

LOL, sorry to laugh, but that just made my day, 8-10 weeks, looks like you will hear from everyone else how awesome it is before you get to play it, and by the time you get it, it will be old news by then and everyone will be playing something else.
once again, LOL

I did the same thing, is it an automatic shipment? I forget what all I did now....
Just a note, Even if you had gotten it home, you couldn't have played it. During installation it checks on Valves server to check the Key. It would have locked you down and you couldn't play it until release.
So better to be denied at Wally world than in your room with expensive computer equipment to destroy.

why wouldn't they sell it to you while it's already on the display? Geez, what a way to attract customers into the store and lie to them

They weren't supposed to let customers see it until the official release date, Wal-Mart's foul...

well i was thinking that until i checked it last night. this is what i found...
Thanks for purchasing a RADEON(tm) based graphics card! We understand that our customers are anxious to start playing Half-LifeŽ 2 the moment it is available on November 16th, and now you can beat the rush by pre-downloading the game from STEAM.Using your Half-Life 2 Activation Key (on your ATI Half-Life 2 coupon) and creating your account on STEAM, Valve's broadband delivery mechanism will automatically initiate a complete download to your PC the moment the game officially launches, free of charge. Alternatively, you can order Half-Life 2 on CD-ROM from ATI to be shipped 8-10 weeks after Half-Life 2 is released (Note: the CD-ROM activation requires a valid STEAM account enabled with your ATI Half-Life 2 key mentioned above. A new key to play is not included, and shipping and handling is also not included). So why wait? Get Half-Life2 the moment it launches!
now when i chose to go with the cd version since i didn't want to take the chance my computer rebooted during mid download or loosing connection during the download. when they first set this up they said on here that as soon as the game hit the shelves it would be sent to my house so i could have it just about the same time everyone else would. now they go and change it. jerks... :eat this:

Well, It looks like even if I had got the game early, that I still would not have been able to play it.
Apparently the game comes locked and must turned on by Valve online (not before the 16th )before you can play it.
So had I got it early, I would have only been able to admire the box that it came in until the 16th.
I'm all for companies protecting there software, but I think this is getting a bit carried away. It looks like the folks with out Internet access, won't even be able to play HL2.

DAMMIT I've had this game for 2 1/2 hours and I still can't play it [smilie=BangHead.gif]
Apparently the steam network is to busy to let me register the game [smilie=5bomb.gif]
If the guy that came up with this Steam idea where over here right now, he would be suffering from a not-so-virtual Head-Shot [smilie=new_snipersmilie.gif]

I heard a rumor that HL2 queries a remote server for authenticity verification before launching the game.. I really hope that ins't true.. especially since I will be paying for the game, that is F***ED up....

Its no rumor, Silence.
From what I've played of it so far, I'm not very impressed with the rest of the game either. Unless the game starts getting better soon, I'll be selling my copy on ebay.

Co-worker is returning it... annoyed/upset, didn't even get to try it, I guess the website where you register continually rejected his CD key..
What crap.......
I haven't had any trouble whatsoever with it. I thought the game was great.
