I'm considering unrounding my "ghetto rounded" IDE and floppy cables...

I'm too afraid to fold my sata cables; can't be good, right?

look at page 4...though definitely easier on the case he is using, with the vertically mounted SATA drives, and the cables connecting on an excellent place on the mobo...than with regular horizontal drive bays and a NF7-S.....

Couldn't be any worse than my "ghetto rounding"...slightly bigger around than a pencil, and folded back on itself in a few places.

do your cables look like mine did from several years back?

Those look pretty good, might be a bit easier to work with than round IDE cables also..........

no, just folded (wadded) and wrapped from plug to plug with electrical tape. I know, I know, still looks better than split loom...and cheaper than rounded ones.

I think I read somewhere that round IDE cables result in more retries and therefore less performance......

If they're not made right, sure..
but will the performance be better? I've heard only the tempature will drop in your case.

That's not even always true.. they're just easier to deal with.. and cleaner looking...

yeah, the clean look is the whole point...actually, there are some that say screwing around with flat cables with hurt their performance

It can.. I was always scared of creasing mine like that guy did in that URL... frankly (no pun intended  ) I would recommend against doing that..

LOL...yep, me too now...I trashed my ghetto rounded IDE cable during a review yesterday, and don't have a spare. Damn, can't get one here in town, and will cost more for gas than the cable costs to go get one. [smilie=5headache.gif]
Fortunitely, its only for my optical drives, and I seldom use them.

interesting article. I have always heard round is better, I guess htis proof that may not be the case.

round is generally better for airflow. the only drawback is that sometimes if they are not rounded properly you can get noise which slows data transfer. as long as you get good quality rounded cables though, it won't matter
