Hi ,
I just installed a new 2nd 400w PSU in my CPU today and i was wanting to know something ,
How far can you push your vCore on an AMD64 Winchester Approx before the actual voltage will fry the chip ? [ Not the Heat ]
Like if you had 1.8/1.9 with temps of 45/50 ?
I take it theres a threshold that the heat dosent matter , the amount of current will fry the chip ? yeah ? no ?

I have not used that particular CPU, but not all chips are created equally. Due to the manufacturing process, some chips just turn-out better than others, so there is no one max voltage setting for a particular chip.
Can CPU's go "POOF" from over volting, even if temps are in their safety margin? Sure!
However, if you have a CPU that is OC friendly, odds are it can handel the torture a lot more than a chip that is not.

I've got the same CPU as you and I've had it up to 1.6 with water cooling. But I really didn't see any big gains after about 1.5 volts. Just keep your temps down and you should be fine. The hotest I've seen mine so far was 42c @ 10x270 @ 1.6 volts running prime95.

You've got an AMD 64 3200+ @ 2.7GHz at 42° full Load ?[smilie=new_shocked.gif]
What cooling are you using ?

Your default voltage is 1.5v...
I've taken mine as high as 1.7v, gets warmer (a whole 51° C some times on air cooling, which is some times a 3/4 degree jump from 1.6/1.65v), but I haven't had a need to try more since my chip doesn't like more than 2300Mhz in the first place.
But like they already said, chip quality varies from unit to unit, but raising the voltage more than you need to will shorten the overall life of your processor. You really should find a stable point and not run any more voltage than you need to...

Ive been trying using a 9 Multiplier and got good results but i dont want to go any higher , not because of Heat , i just dont know how much current the chip can handle .
Heres the Highest overclock i can get out of my chip using a 9 Multiplier and a pic of the results with a 10 Multiplier , Pics below :-
Im using an ASUS Star ICE CPU cooler
9 x 280 MHz @ 2522 MHz

10 x 250 @ 2500 MHz

D'oh the first image doesn't have any benchmark results.

I'm using this cooling system I built a while back.................. 8)

The cooling system is the same as in the article, the system has changed.

That is a great setup ... really must have put a lot of effort into that , good job
Biohazard is that a Lian Li Case ?
I have a Lian Li PC-7 that looks like that , same shape .

But I just ordered this case 2 days ago :-

Thanks, it took like 2 months to build the water cooling system.
And yup, it's a Lian-Li, I don't know the model number, it was a OEM from Comp USA I got when my son worked their, got a pretty good discount. But that was maybe 3 years ago, I don't think I'll ever get rid of the case. I would like to get one of their newer cases though, the ones that open on the right side.

Biohazard : How much does a setup like that cost [ Not Including the Case ] approx ?
a car Radiator and 2 car radiator fans ... man that must be quite loud ! [smilie=new_Eyecrazy.gif]

It's not as loud as when I was running a thermalright SLK 800 with a Thermaltake Smart Fan set on high, but there is no way that you can call it quiet either. I need to get off my but and re-wire the fans to run on 7v to quiet things down a bit and see if it still cools as well.
I'm not really sure anymore what the system costs, it was more than a normal system due to the cost of the high flow quick disconnects, the set was around $80.00. Here's what I paid as I remember:
Pump DD D4 $70.00
Rez DD Dual Bay $31.00
Rad 77 Boni Heater Core $18.00
Rad Fittings Barbs and Adapters $4.00
Hose Clear Flex $10.00
Clamps $5.00
Water Blocks Polarflo CPU&GPU $70.00

I'm no expert but my LAN admin told me that XP2600s were basically "failed" 3ks IIRC. He ran one box oc'd to 3200 with no problems, the other one died within a few months. His settings are a little OTT but there's definitely some 'good' and 'bad' chips out there' He said they'd both be fine at 2600 of couse...:)
