what an interesting turn. Maxtor is the first company to reduce the warranty to 1 year and the whole industry followed back in 2001. Now 3 years later (funny that's the time of the warranty, coincidence:)?), with Seagate upped their warranty to 5 years, maxtor has decided to put back the warranty of their hd to 3 years. I guess sooner or later WD will follow the route. I think this is a great news for us. Hopefully it will stay like this.
To be honest, I don't see much difference between 3 or 1 years but I like the fact you got 3 years as a backup when you buy the hd. NOwaday hd is so cheap, it really doesn't matter if it is broken but it gives you a good feeling that you bought a product that's covered by 3 years or more. It gives you the confidene on the product as well as gives you a security.
Thanks seagate for this:).

I don't know about cheap? My Maxtor HDD thats over a year old now, still costs $161.00 today at Newegg. They could still get a bit cheaper, if you ask me, though having a better warranty is always nice.

3 years... If there is a production fault in your HDD will it die in a year, mostly HDD have a very long lifetime so 3 years isn't that much. I'am still using a Maxtor thats 6 years old.

yeah but it is a good news that you will be covered by 3 years rather than 1 year now that they were offering. I like the 3 years. I had my HD broken (well it's my fault that it broke) after like 2 or so years of use and they replace it, so I am glad that I got 3 years if I buy new one now.

Considering the fact that most people will opt to buy a new drive if theirs dies after 3 years, they aren't losing much.
