I have at the moment GeForce FX 5200 128mb .

I dont really take an interest in GFX cards , as i only play 1 game UT2004.

I only have £93 to spend , and i seen this card http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67864&item=5140301572&rd=1

*New* XFX 256MB nVidiaGeForce FX5700LE AGP8x DVI/TV-Out £90
or
Geforce Ti 4800 128MB Memory for £80
or
ATI Built Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB Video Card Only £73.00
or
256Mb Radeon 9600 PRO TV-OUT,DVI,AGPx8,New Retail Boxed £72

BTW .. is there a difference between XFX 5700 cards and normal 5700 ?

Would this be a reasonable upgrade to play UT2004 ?

Or would i be better buying a more expensive 1 ?

As i said i have no idea about GFX cards , as long as it will play UT2004 and not hamper my overclocking .

I have the 9700 pro - it will run most games on mid to high settingings depending on the resolution. I get a gfx score of about 5,500 in aquamark 3. It a pretty good card.

I would go with the 5700 light edition, even though I think it's only 128 bits. It's quite a nice card actually and even Doom 3 on high and 1280*1024 runs excellent.

I just got Halflife2 from my brother for christmas , and along with UT2004 there about the only 2 games i play as i only have about 10 games .

So i only need a GFX card that will play these games at a comfortable Frame rate . And as i know nuthing about GFX cards would i be ok with 1 of the first 2 choices or better to go with the 6600GT as its not that much over my budget , i was willing to pay upto £150 .

nVidia Geforce FX5700LE 256MB DDR TV OUT/DVI @ £65.78

Gigabyte FX5700 128MB DDR TV-OUT/DVI/DVI-I @ £98.70

I looked at a Galaxy GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 @ £ 164.50

P.S i never really looked at an ATI cards , its just a personal preferance as ive got 2 nVIDIA cards that ive had for ages , and i got an ATI card and for an unknown reason it just stopped working ??? NO OVERCLOCKING involved .

honestly it doesn't take much to run hl2 like everyone thinks. my ati 9600xt (128mb) runs everything smooth set on medium at 1024x768. thats at 70fps average.

I've been playing HL2 at 1600x1200 with everything on High running dx 8.1 through my FX5900 overclocked with only slight hiccups now and then when loading..

Cheers for the info , I think i'll go with either a 9800 Pro or a FX5900XT .

I was going to go with a 9600XT for the cheaper price but i was reading somewhere that a 9600XT is basically a 9600 tweaked up as far as it will go , so theres really no room for anymore overclocking and that put me off that card.

It will proberlly be a FX5900XT because there cheaper that 9800 pro and they are about the same performance , ive been told , [ Also the shop up the road from my house has a nice Leadtek 1 in stock just now ]

Cheers

It's really user preference... the 9800's are actually doing better in HL2 performance-wise, and run it in directx 9 instead of 8.1 at the hardware level like the 5900 would... shouldn't really buy your card based on one game though, just a thought.

Hmm... good news for me, becaus if I recall correctly due to the change in architecture for the 9600 series, my 9500 pro should be able to run it that well too.
