Well, since the holiday season is upon us...I pose this question...I just spent Thanksgiving bored out of my skull, reconfiguring my machine after the fresh install, and downloading Christmas music, among other things.

Traditional includes hymns and non-religious songs that are very popular...such as the songs from the Christmas television shows made in the '50's and '60's.

Nontraditional is pretty much Christmas related songs written since, I guess, 1970 or so...such as John Lennon's "So This Is Christmas"... :vomit:

Traditional: O Holy Night, preferably by someone that does a great job with it.

I guess I should admit here that as far as I'm concerned, very, very few artists have done even a passable job with traditional Christmas songs since I was a kid in the 1960's...mostly country artists since, I guess. There ain't many Perry Comos/Gene Autrys/Dean Martins/Burl Ives/etc around anymore...LOL

Nontraditional: I Hate Xmas...download the MP3 here:http://www.biggerthanabreadbox.com/xmas.htm

For anyone that can stomach them, I've got a couple of Christmas numbers at the bottom of this page: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/writePage.cfm?myType=music&bandid=48044&bandnamesave=aloneandblue

Warning...music on the above page sux...listen at your own risk!

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Well, it's kind of been made a Christmas song over the last century, but when it comes on a CD with Elvis's Blue Christmas, it counts.

Working at a car dealership, we have 24/7 music playing over our intercom system... around the holidays I get to listen to Christmas music for a few months straight.. I think I come close to losing my sanity at about the point they turn it off every year.. :barf:

hrm, well I guess that I like the more traditional songs and singers- Perry Como, Frank, Dean, Bing Crosby, throw in Andy Williams, and Elvis. I like the drifters Version of White Christmas, Nat King Cole singing The Christmas Song (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...), Elvis for Blue Christmas, Bobby Helms for Jingle Bell Rock, Deano for Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer, baby its cold outside, and especially for Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow. Also - Brenda Lee's Rock'n Around the Christmas Tree. If I had to choose a modern song, I would say that I like Third Day's Version of Do you hear what I hear(I think thats the title). There are a few others that I like, I don't know that I could pick a favorite from those - maybe The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. Although I must say that Christmas music is only good in moderation - you can't listen to it over and over and maintain sanity

You know, I never knew that song was called that...we played it in high school band (like a million years ago), but it was called something different...I guess it was the name of the original music written by Leontovych, it appears that "Carol of the Bells" was the name Wilhousky gave it when he arranged it and gave it English words.

Seems that originally, the song was about a chicken...lol.

Now that's what I call Christmas music.

I have to add a newer one...well a newer older one...I always wondered who sang the song that the street singers on Christmas Vacation sang..."Hey Santa Clause...YEAH...Hey Santa Clause...Yeah...etc". The Moonglows. It is an awesome song...probably lost to the ages if National Lampoon hadn't revived it in the movie.

That's why my favorite is Auld Lang Syne (http://wilstar.com/xmas/auldlangsyne.htm) which means its midnight on New Years eve, and the holiday music season is over for another year

Just heard one...just heard Moriah Carey do Oh Holy Night...I'm sure its been around a while, but I had never heard it before...pretty awesome. I usually don't like her music...but always have been amazed at her incredible vocal range.

I also really like John Anderson's "The Christmas Song".

We sang it "Deck the halls with mar-i-wanna...tis the season to be stoned...". In another life about 30 years ago, anyway.

Common and traditional, but Silent Night still ranks in at number 1 with me. :) I love christmas music alltogether though.

As bad as it is, Mariah Carey does have a good Christmas album (it was before she went ghetto skank).

I like John Boy and Billy's Christmas albums, including the classic Christmas Balls.

Manheim Steam Roller has a good Christmas album as well

The Mannheim Steamroller stuff isn't bad, but I heard the first one so much I got pretty tired of it.

Haven't heard John Boy and Billy's stuff, though I do listen to them occasionally.

Found a pretty funny song the other day, that I assume also came from a morning radio show....B...B...B....Blue Christmas by Porky Pig. LOL.
