I just done a little mod that has saved me so so much time .
I fitted a second Power button to my case front and set it up to control the CMOS jumper .
I used a little 3 pin switch and when i press the swith in the CMOS resets , then just press out and its back to normal operation .
I think this is a must for anyone thats always messing with BIOS settings , save all that case door removal and fiiddling inside your box . :P

Very nice- but that would just make me push for an unstable overclock  Very good idea, its practical and useful- I may have to look into it.

Yeah , I was getting sick of taking the side off all the time it was spoiling the mood
Anyway before this i would be temped to bump the settings up to far too quick just to save a few restarts and Resets .

Thats a good point - nothing like pushing a little to far and then having to rip the side panel off  Of course a lot of new boards will automatically reset the cmos.

Dont you think its about time motherboard manufacturers come up with a different method of Resetting CMOS/BIOS ? even if its just on the mainly enthusiast sector of motherboards ?
This is an internal chassis function that gets used by PC enthusiasts countless times .
There should be some sort of backplate solution available at least .

Well a lot of new boards will reset themselves if they fail post....I guess the real trick is not to go too far too fast

I have thought about that addition many times...but there are too many little kids around my computer when I'm not home to take that chance.

Yeah that would be a pain ... I put mine at the front in the spare Floppy drive , but you could use a back plate .
I actually enjoy overclocking a lot more than i did before because it take about half the time to reload CMOS.
if you can, post some pictures. I'd like to see how you wired it.

I've never actually measured the CMOS jumper on my Abit board, but I'd be willing to bet that a 3-pin fan plug would fit on it.
In my case, a key switch probably would be the best, but here is what I have in mind...
For a toggle switch, an SPDT, preferably not an on-off-on type. Center pin connects to common post, "normal operation" pin connects to one post, "clear CMOS" pin connects to the other. Personally, I would put two switches, on not working, I think one switch doesn't look right. This would look pretty cool on the right box:

This particular switch is an SPST, but the best photo I could find.
For a pushbutton switch, an SPDT momentary switch would be my choice.

agreed. i could only imagine what would happen if you accidentally pushed the button with the system already on. [smilie=5shocking.gif]

I know Abit has a keyboard key setup to do this.. something like F9 while you power on (would have to find my manual as I haven't had to do this in a while).

now that you mention it, i remember a while back having to hold down the insert key when i booted to reset the bios... this was several years ago though...

Still works on my AV8, it doesn't clear everything though, just what you screwed up during a OC.

Yeah thats the main reason i made the switch , becasue hitting insert didnt always reset BIOS .
BTW , a fan plug does fit the CMOS jumpers , that exactly what i used .

I'm thinking of doing the same mod to my system as soom as I can get around a bit better.............. 8)
