Does somebody know if there is a CCFL dimmer, or a way to dim it?

Not that I know of, and they have to have xx.x amount of voltage just to start.

I would think that any reobus of the correct voltage would wor, but I've never tried it.

I think Kryo just reviewed a product that could do what your wanting, but I can't remember if it dims CCFLs.

looked on google, but the information for DIY CCFL's dimmers is poor... yuk

You might be able to do it by reworking the ballast/inverter, I think the voltage needs to remain constant (or close) but frequentcy modulation could work.
and Pulse width modulation could work
I don't believe this will be a simple off the shelf reostat solution.

do you want it permanently dimmed or controlable?

yes, the Sunbeam Lightbus that I reviewed will dim CCFL's

I got to see it as he was reviewing it, it is pretty sweet and will do more than just dim them. I think it would be exactly what you are looking for.

controlable, I think I'm going to rebuild the inverter, but first I'm going to take a look at the Sunbeam Lightbus

Looks like the light bus is the way to go

I think the Vantec 305 controls 3 fans and 1 CCFL.

Kyro can you give me the link of your review?

Its not available yet, but if like Sunbeam's other products, you guys will see them in Europe before we see them here.

yeh, i don't know about the cost yet. it hadn't been set when i recieved the review sample. it should be out soon though. believe me though, if it's priced any less than $60US, it's well worth it.

pluged a CCFL inverter in my revoltec fan controller today... and... it's dimms my CCFL's!!! yeah :) it's only dimming it from 70% till 100%. Maby I can mod my fan controller so that it could dim it from 0% till 100% any idea's for that?? by the way the inverter is buzzing as I dim it. Is this not good? I know that normal home and professional theater dimmers buzz but the inverter is buzzing!! :???:

I'd worry less about the buzzing and pay careful attension to the extra heat that the inverter is most likely producing (potentially "burst into flames" sort of heat.
As I said a reostat is probably not the way to go. (that probably is what your fan controller is)

honestly, a fanbus that incorporates a PWM controller would be ideal
