I feel like everything gets the seal of approval, yeah?

It's breeding a false faith in humanity. Everyone can't be that good at life, right?

=P hehe

lol yeh i get asked that a lot... and no, not everything is 'approved'...

but the fact of the matter is, companies know better than to send their 'non-high end' products out for review. ocz, for example, they dont send review sites their value ram... same for corsair, kingston, etc...

I've only given the seal on avg. 70% of the stuff I review. If I don't feel it's good enough for me to use I'm certainly not going to recommend it to anyone else. We don't have a "seal of disapproval" or anything like that though.

I personally have given nearly everything I have reviewed a seal since we started using them.

When I start a review, I place in my mind my expectations of the product, based mostly on the price. A relatively expensive product has greater expectations than a budget priced product. Value has very much weight in my mind towards my giving the seal.

I also look at the manufacturer's specs and/or claims...which the product should meet.

If the product meets my expectations, it gets the seal. I still show all of the faults I find with the product, both during the review, and in my conclusions. Usually, the faults are minor. If I feel that any of the faults are major, the product really has to have exceeded my other expectations to get the seal, such as my review of the Razer AC-1 Sound Card. It was a pretty difficult decision.

I think I have used the statement "this is a piece of crap" only once.

But, I have reviewed very few items that wouldn't meet minimum expectations...I have only reviewed one kit of RAM, never any water cooling stuff, only a couple of very high end cases, etc.

One problem with reviews is that they have to be done in a timely manner, and some problems show themselves over time. I personally use nearly every item I have reviewed for weeks or months after the review...even years. (except for the stuff I have given away, I still have every item I have ever reviewed) I have had a few items that weeks later I decide that they weren't all that great...but it is too late then.

yeah i understand that it's a judgement call, but maybe then you want to consider something that only the really good stuff gets?

because i know that i see 3dgameman's "kickass" on EVERYTHING so it means nothing to me, know what i'm saying?

Yeah, I agree. Actually, I prefer a rating system rather than an up or down vote, to give more flexibility, like maybe no seal, a silver seal, gold seal, and platinum seal...but we decided early on that we would just use the seal. Actually, we really haven't been using it that long...maybe a couple of years.

But, ours is just a seal of approval, which every product that pretty much meets expectations or is a good value should get. And like the others said, not every product gets approved. Shawn recently reviewed a $360 Zalman case that didn't. Seems like Biohazard did a water cooling system fairly recently that he didn't give it to.

Take the PSU in question. We have no idea why it isn't modular...I would imagine part of it is size, and maybe cooling. That is a lot of PSU in an ATX package. It didn't budge an inch when powering two 8800s, which means that it probably would stay within the required 5% when powering four. That is why someone would buy a 1kW PSU. I would imagine that PC Power and Cooling will never make a modular PSU. And you will pay over $200 bucks more for their 1kW offering.

The seal is really just something that the manufacturer can put on their website and hopefully the packaging...for OCIA.net advertisement.

The seal is not the big deal anyway...you're supposed to read the review and draw your own conclusions, based on our fairly extensive evaluation of the item.

LOL...I, for one, don't spend 10-30 hours doing a review just for someone to skip the text and go to the last page to see if it got the seal or not.
