Default How To Install Windows XP From A USB Flash Drive

Title: How To Install Windows XP From A USB Flash Drive

Date: 05-20-2009

Quote:
I had heard of installing Vista and even Windows 7 RC using a flash drive, but never XP (my operating system of choice). I spent some time researching and by combining a few things I learned on various sites, put together a method that was pretty quick and worked perfectly. I decided to make this guide (complete with clickable screenshots) for people like me who need a no-nonsense method of installing XP from a flash drive.

Default Great "tool" :)

Hello there, I just want to THANK YOU for this great guide
I apologize for my poor english (spanish is my mother tongue) but I want to ask you a simple question. Nowadays is very common to use nlite to include SP3 and latest patches for XP......Does this method works with a "nlited" XP version??
Thanks in advance.
Alx

I would imagine it should work with any CD that you have updated, whether using slipstream, nlite, etc. as long as you are able to install Windows from that CD normally.

Not sure what the stipulations are on the Windows files, whether it actually needs them all or if even just the I386 directory is required.

Thumbs up

hello to all!
How To Install Windows XP From A USB Flash Drive was a great instructive article.
i would be grateful if you could tell me if i can use this method if i want to use the recovery CD that was supplied with my system at the time of purchase. this recovery CD is without SP2.
the other clarification is that no mention has been made of SP2. will it affect the method if the CD used does not come with SP2 on it/
thanks in advance.

Hi. My Windows disc does not have SP2 on it and that is what I used for the article, so no, that shouldn't affect anything.

As for the recovery disc, I honestly don't have an answer for you there, as all of my PCs are custom built and I don't have any manufacture recovery discs to test this with.

Are you sure you downloaded and extracted BOOTsect.zip into the correct directory?
